An ancient Chinese proverb provides insight into the art of Feng Shui.
If there is light in the soul
There will be beauty in the person.
If there is beauty in the person
There will be harmony in the house.
If there is harmony in the house
There will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation
There will be peace in the world.
--Chinese Proverb
I recently stumbled across this Ancient Chinese Proverb and felt it eloquently explains the principles of Feng Shui. Feng Shui begins with each individual; it does not begin with the world. As each person brings light to their soul, a snowball effect begins. I strongly believe Feng Shui is creating balance in the home to heal the wounds of the past of each individual. How many truly happy people do you know that live in chaos?
Read this proverb and just sit as you reflect after each thought in the proverb. To begin to change your life you must also look within your soul.
Feng Shui has quietly entered our homes, schools, offices, cities, and towns. The science and art of Feng Shui has been around for thousands of years but it has only become topic of conversation in the past twenty years. Originally Feng Shui was brought to North America by the Chinese immigrants during the Gold Rush of the mid 1800’s. Today, there is a wide assortment of Feng Shui practices and it is challenging to practice because of the many contradictory theories.
Compass, Form, Black Hat, and Flying Star are very the more popular Feng Shui practices. Compass school's main tool is the bagua while a pakua is used for the Black Hat Sect. Form is based on the geographical physical environment and flying star is guided by astrology. The one main commonality between all schools is the concept of intention. A person’s intention on changing their life is the most valuable tool in Feng Shui. A Feng Shui cure has limited power; it intensifies greatly with the recipient’s intention. The important element of Feng Shui is to choose one school and to follow their guidelines for implementing their system into your physical environments.
The key to Feng Shui is to understand, it is about living the simple life. One of the first steps in Feng Shui is to clear the clutter. Often our homes are overflowing with stuff and it inhibits us from fulfilling our life aspirations. Our homes are a reflection of ourselves. If there is disharmony in us, there will be disharmony in the home. A spotless or messy home may have disharmony but in different ways.
